Why can’t Democrats and Republicans work together for what is best for this country?

I retired from the Marines after 30 years of serving this great country. I’ve seen the horrors of war and understand why we have to fight them. What I don’t understand is the war we have right here in America. Both parties spend more time bashing each other than they do working for us! I’m tired of it. How about you?

I agree with you. Both parties have their own agenda, won’t concede an inch. It sucks. It’s crap. The one thing they do agree on is to keep voting themselves raises !

By the way, thank you for all your years serving our great country !

They used too. I think the Republicans just became way too angry after Richard Nixon had to resign in disgrace for his illegal activities. . .

Simple, the Democrats don’t want what is best for this country.
You were in the Marines for 30 yrs and you still don’t know this ?
    I’m glad you retired…

It is because they are all members of the wealthiest people in the U.S. Their fighting is just a show to try to fool people into thinking each side has an agenda in favor of the masses. They are only looking out for the interests of a small minority of the U.S. population. You must have seen a similar pattern in the military.

That’s why I’ve been an Independent for 30 years. The fact that you have to agree to all aspects of a parties "platform" to belong to them, just mystifies me; that implies there are only two ways to think. Now, it’s all about money… period. Elections are bought, funded by large donors and corporations; then those that are elected are controlled by lobbyists … who should be outlawed immediately! What a warped way to run a country, by being subservient to those with enough money to sway votes.

They disagree on what is best for this country. Even when they agree on a given issue, they can’t agree on how to implement the solution.

As a result, politics is essentially a power struggle to see whose vision becomes closer to a reality.

There are plenty of idealistics in this world. We can sit around in chatrooms and talk about how easy it should be to fix the country. We can sit around and talk about how great democracy is. And yes, compared to the other options, democracy is a great system.

But we have to understand the limitations. Everyone has a voice, but there is no guarantee that each voice will be the same. Bureaucracy and compromise and the ensuing power struggle is what causes so many problems.

Liberals don’t play nice. They make up their own rules and if you don’t go along, they accuse you of cheating.

First you have to define the meaning of "what is best for this country". Once you do that, everything else is easy.

That is why they cannot work together. "Best" is in the eyes of the beholder.

Because each wants to best the other, so they won’t work together but instead bash the other. Don’t they realize how much could get done if they all worked towards the same thing together?? But you put two people from different parties together and deciding what to work towards becomes an issue, and an election campaign.

A perfect example of this is seeing some of the responses - "the liberals. . ." and "the conservatives. . .". It is pathetic. Brainwashing, really. Until they are FORCED to work together, they won’t. And as long as the people remain divided like they are on Answers, nothing will force politicians to work together.

Good, but impossilbe idea… as they disagree on what is best for the country…
The majority of the country thinks the war in Iraq is bad for the country, but a few in power see it as good, so it continues…
They disagree on all issues, dems say abortion is good, reps say it’s bad…

Because most politicians are more interested in playing power games that making any real change. It is about who can have the most press, not about actually doing their job. I know a lot of the local, state and national politicians who represent where I live. I truly believe if people paid attention to the elections and met the people they were voting for, 99% of the people in office would not have been elected and we would have a more effective government.

GREED….FOR MONEY….GREED FOR POWER….BUT KEEP THIS UP THERE WILL BE NO MONEY AND NO COUNTRY.
    1) WE HAVE NO PRESIDENT. UNTIL THIS ‘PRESIDENT’ PROVIDES PROOF OF QUALIFICATION TO THAT OFFICE, HE IS NOT THE PRESIDENT. If he had a bona fide birth certificate, it would have been shown to the public immediately. I have one, bet you do too.
    2) ANYTIME ANY DECISION IS PUSHED THROUGH AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, THERE IS SOME DIRE REASON NOT TO. See health care bill regarding what happens to you if a bureaucrat decides your quality of life in not acceptable. You’re left to DIE.
    3) MOST AMERICANS VOTE BY PARTY - WHY ARE THEY RE-ELECTING THESE PEOPLE? BUT THEN I VOTED REPUBLICAN AND SPECTOR CHANGES TO THE WINNING TEAM. Makes him a loser in my eyes.
