I am not in trouble with the law. Just tired of all the BS and want to escape. For now I want to just be able to relaxe and enjoy life for as little money as possible. But In the future I may want to work with tourist or open a small business outside the US.
try living in the PHILIPPINES.. there are a lot of foreigners who retire here…
I want to leave the country and retire with as little money as possible. Where do i go to live a decent life?

i would say mexico, would give you the best bang for your buck. but, with there poverty and anti american sentiment , go to aculpulco or some other near resort area. or just move to one of the 7 mexican u.s states. good luck.

I've been thinking the same lately. Checkout escapeartist.com for some interesting reading about anywhere you might be considering, and even a few places you may not have considered yet. Happy hunting.

I'd definitely not go with Mexico. You obviously don't want to go to Mexico, but Mexico *is* getting more expensive, primarily because of… the… influx… of… people… retiring… there. Anywho, most of the central American countries would probably do you good, or some of the South American ones like Venezuela or maybe Ecuador. You never hear anything bad about Ecuador.
The problem is that many of the countries that would be cheap for an American to retire to have problems with things like crime and very oppressive Governments. But I'm sure just about anything is possible… with the right amount of cash. I'd personally recomment buying a home wherever you go, rather than renting, because home values almost always increase. Best of luck. I'd like to retire to a foreign country too, but I'm not sure if my wife will go for it. She isn't very receptive to the idea. Oh well, I could always leave her behind and visit her at Christmas and on her Birthday!

This is an easy one. You can live like a king in Vietnam. You can retire and never work again for under a quarter mill. The banks here pay 10% interest. You can buy a house for under $30,000. A really nice house. Put the $250 in several banks in a couple of different countries. The $2000 a month that you will make in interest will be more than enough to eat every meal at a good restaurant, join the beach club, have as many drinks as you want to have every day and travel when you wish to. I know this for a fact. I am doing it myself. And love the life. I am living in Hoian Vietnam, a small river village in the middle of the coast line. The beach is white sands and 40 k's long. Beautiful. if you don't freak out and give your money to some bar girl you can live very well for the rest of your life and never work a day. If you want any more info let me know. There are negatives as there are any where in the world but they are not enough to have kept me from retiring here. good luck and have a pleasant retirement.
PS: You can do it on a lot less money that the $250 and with a little more it just gets better and better.

Wherever you go - you will miss the USA with all it's fault, this is still the greatest country to live. Good luck with your quest.

Man, you are dreaming! What are you gonna do if you become ill? Oh, I get it, You've been watching the movie "The Shawshank Redemption" and think that's the life for you, am I right? That's a farce. Come back down to earth, my man and get real. Money is the universal language and its a necessity for survival. Next ?

There are a number of questions you have to ask yourself first, before you decide which country you want to move to. Have you ever lived or worked outside of the US? It takes a serious adjustment moving to another country and often, people move expecting to have all the same things…including culture ! That, you should never expect to change in another country. What about language? Are you willing to learn a new language? And money….conversion of money from one currency to another. If you have US dollars to live on, will you need to pay excessive fees to convert your funds or get it to where you will be living? Medical care: this should be a serious consideration too.
No one can make a decision for you and all I can say is do your homework carefully. Panama is where I moved, after living in the Caribbean for many years. I am enjoying the country tremendously. It is still relatively inexpensive, currency is the US$, telecommuncations are excellent throughout the country, medical care here is inexpensive and “excellent” (with a John Hopkins facility in Panama City). The list goes on ….
Good luck….and I hope you make a choice you are happy with.

don’t believe the saying the people here in the philippine are hospitable (it’s only in a commercial ads), im living here and really seeking and waiting for a chance to leave the country for good . and if you notice that most of the filipinos want to be employed abroad rather than here bec of the low wages , i personally can say these philippine have the most corruption in all walks of life . be it in gov’t agencies like “Land Transportation Office” “City Halls”and “Dept of Foreign Affairs” thats are only a few and the list will go on! lot’s of red tape ! , Foreigners like to stay or retire here , bec they can afford to hire maid to do the housekeeping and laundry . here if you take a bus , passenger jeep , tricycles and pedicabs chances of being rob and holdups are high . economy is not good here , our country survives is due to the remittance of filipinos working abroad and lot’s of chinamen doing small business here and then staying rather in china bec they can bear babies here compare to only one when they are back home .
i can say Vietnam , indonesia are a good alternate country for good honest people japanese are better !
